Goal: to bring cheer to women shut-ins in Manchester and in neighboring nursing homes.

Actions: Deliver a pink carnation in late winter (or early spring) depending on the weather; chose a date such as Valentine’s Day, or first day of Spring.

  • Chair and 1 or 2 members to organize, then several volunteers to help with delivery. The Chair is appointed by the Club President or Executive Board.

  • Decide on a date; ask Club members for assistance. Get as many volunteers as you can to make short work of it.

  • Contact Council on Aging office for a list of shut-ins, additional names who might need cheering. Compare with last years’ list. Discuss list with Committee and Executive Board.

  • Divide list by neighborhoods.

  • Prepare a card * to attach to each carnation, identifying Manchester Woman’s Club.

  • Volunteers meet at Committee Chair’s home to pick up carnations, get delivery route, etc.

  • Order carnations from Wards in Beverly, about 3 days ahead of time. Invoice(s) need to be annotated with name of the project and the name of the Club member to receive reimbursement. Invoice(s) is/are then sent to the Club Treasurer.
